Seye Isikalu is a photographer and filmmaker whose body of work is usually super interesting from his engaging short films with poignant messages, to photo series which capture all our fave celebs in their melanin-rich glory. Seye's films and photography primarily explore socio-political issues that affect black people and he carries this on with his latest short film, Yellow In Blue.
Yellow In Blue follows the story of two flatmates - Ama and Kazeem -whose Valentine's Day plans fall through, causing them to spend the evening together. Through the 13-minute short, the flatmates touch on contemporary social issues such as ashy ankles, friends ditching their friends once they get into relationships and- my fave- men being trash (even in homosexual relationships).
The imagery in the short is very sharp and intentional which shows off Seyi's eye. Filled with mellow yellow tones which enhance the characters' skin tones, Yellow In Blue makes for an aesthetically pleasing body of work which has a storyline that engages you until it's over.
